Sean Pierson Fired From Toronto Police Department Due To "Pimp Daddy" Moniker

Sean Pierson, whose job with the Toronto Police Department was put on hold after his fight at UFC 124 on December 11th, has been informed that his employment with the department has been terminated before it really began.

Pierson, defeated Matt Riddle via unanimous decision at the event, which was held at Montreal’s Bell Centre in front of 23,152 fans. The live attendance for the event was the highest ever for a mixed martial arts event held in North America.

Pierson was to start his duties with the police department on the Tuesday following the fight, but he was told that those duties were put on hold while the department investigated a possible conflict of interest with Pierson’s secondary employment as a mixed martial arts fighter.

The Toronto Star reported earlier this week, “Police spokesman Tony Vella did not comment directly on Pierson’s case but said every police officer who has paid 'secondary employment' must first clear it with the force.”

The Star also wrote, "Requests for secondary employment can be denied if it constitutes a conflict of interest."

The Star is now reporting that Pierson has been released from his duties with the department. The reason for the release is focused on Pierson’s nickname, “Pimp Daddy.” The police department found that the nickname was not suitable for a police officer.

“In this case, it wasn’t what he was doing. It’s that you have a name that I think most people would agree is not appropriate for a police officer," said police spokesman Mark Pugash.

For his part, Pierson holds no grudge and expects to reapply to the department in a few years. He also stated that he has not used the "Pimp Daddy" name for a few years, but warned, "Especially in the digital age. The decisions you make now do affect you in the future.”
