Early yesterday evening, officials announced that Bostonian John “Doomsday” Howard will meet Danish veteran Martin “Hitman” Kampmann in late June.
Both fighters are coming off consecutive losses, the first time for either one while in the UFC.
Kampmann (17-5) most recently lost a controversial unanimous decision to Diego Sanchez in March. “Hitman” pressured Sanchez the whole fight, landing considerably more clean and accurate strikes despite taking the loss.
The bout did, however, take Fight of the Night honors.
Previously, Kampmann lost a split decision to current number-one contender Jake Shields at UFC 121.
Howard (14-6) is coming off a decision loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 124, his second defeat in a row after losing to Jake Ellenberger back in August via a third-round technical knockout due to a doctor's stoppage.
Before the back-to-back losses, “Doomsday” was on a seven-fight win streak, with consecutive knockouts of Daniel Roberts and Dennis Hallman.
This must-win fight for both fighters is scheduled for June 26th at UFC on Versus 4.
