Mouthpiece malfunction stops UFC on VS. 6 prelim bout

Mouthpiece malfunction stops UFC on VS. 6 prelim boutUFC on Versus had a bizarre moment on the undercard. In his bloody bout with Keith Wisniewski, Josh Neer's mouthpiece was knocked out, which is not a rare occurrence. With the two fighters standing near the fence, Neer's black, small mouthpiece went tumbling off the canvas, then down between the fence and the canvas. The fight was stopped as officials attempted to fish out the mouthpiece, a required piece of equipment.

When referee Dan Miragliotta was able to extract the mouthpiece, Neer put it back in his mouth without washing it off. UFC commentators Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg said that this was the first time they had ever seen an incident like that.
