Luke Corcoran looks to extend his MMA record to 2-0 at Cage Contender VIII on Saturday, March 12 when he will face off against Steven Heather of Kokora MMA.
Already well-supported, Corcoran sold out half the venue for his MMA debut, which lasted a mere 45 seconds before the experienced grappler submitted his opponent via rear-naked choke.
Fighting under the Cage Contender banner for the first time, the former Irish judo team captain is looking to impress.
"This is a great opportunity for me to showcase my progression as a mixed martial artist," said a confident Corcoran.
The Dublin man has black belts in both judo and Japanese jiu jitsu and is well-renowned in both fighting styles. However, he assures any opponent to be wary of his new found striking ability.
"Any opponent I face won’t be able to match my martial arts pedigree," argued the lightweight contender. "My clinch and striking game have improved drastically from my years training with SBG.
"I’ve got heavy hands. My earliest memory is my Dad teaching me how to box in the kitchen."
The current Cage Contender lightweight champion is none other than Corcoran’s SBG team mate, Magic Myles Price, who has been helping the Blanchardstown local with his striking skills. With a chance to move closer to the belt, Corcoran dismisses any chances of a bout with Price in the future.
"As teammates, I doubt a championship bout would be welcomed between us. Myles has been a massive help to me during this camp. He helps me with boxing while I give him a hand with judo takedowns. He’s a great fighter."
