Feijao vs. Henderson: Strikeforce Behind the Numbers

This past Saturday night at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Strikeforce presented a championship double-header feature resulting in the crowning of Dan Henderson as the new light heavyweight champ.

That was preceded by Women’s welterweight champion Marloes Coenen of the Netherlands and her dramatic come-from-behind submission win over the game's late replacement challenger in Liz Carmouche.

The televised portion of the card got off to a slow start, as Jorge Masvidal took a unanimous decision over Billy Evangelista. The crowd certainly got back into it when Tim Kennedy survived the hard-striking game of Melvin Manhoef with under four minutes into the first round of their middleweight clash.

The official attendance for the event was: 7,123.

The event was televised live by Showtime Sports and drew an average of 412,000 viewers, half of the viewers that reportedly tuned in for last months Showtime televised event for Strikeforce featuring Antonio Silva vs. Fedor Emelianenko.

Fighter salaries for the main card are as follows:

Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante $28,000 vs. Dan Henderson $250,000.

Marloes “Rumina” Coenen $10,000 vs. Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche $5,000.

Tim Kennedy $50,000 vs. “Marvelous” Melvin Manhoef $10,000.

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal $30,000 ($15,000 win bonus) vs. Billy Evangelista $20,000.

Next up for the San Jose based organization is Strikeforce Challengers 15: Wilcox vs. Damm on April 1 at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. Stay tuned for more Strikeforce coverage in the weeks to come.
