The UFC is in full-on matchmaking mode lately, as UFC 129 in Toronto has begun to fill up.
The latest bout to be rumored for the landmark event is a light heavyweight scrap between up-and-coming prospect Phil Davis and the always durable Matt Hamill. Both look to continue their winning ways.
Phil Davis (8-0) could be one of the top prospects in all of mixed martial arts. The former Penn State wrestler has been able to combine those skills with top-notch Jiu Jitsu to create a deadly mix. He is 4-0 in the UFC so far, including two beautiful submissions over Alexander Gustafsson and Tim Boetsch.
Matt Hamill (10-2) comes into the bout with a five-fight winning streak, although that does include his victory over Jon Jones via disqualification. His most recent fight was a spirited one over Keith Jardine that cost Jardine his spot in the UFC. Hamill is also a top flight wrestler who has shown time and time again that he also possesses very heavy hands.
The bout is expected to be on the main card.
Two other fights scheduled for the April 30 event are Brian Foster vs. Sean Pierson and Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts.
Foster (15-5) is coming off back-to-back wins in the Octagon, including an impressive victory over Matt Brown. Foster has shown a nasty striking game with always evolving Jiu Jitsu.
Sean Pierson (11-4) looked very impressive in his Octagon debut against Matt Riddle back at UFC 124. The Toronto native looks to continue his winning ways.
Claude Patrick (13-1), another Toronto native, has used his excellent wrestling to great success so far in his UFC stint. A win over Roberts would surly launch him into contendership status.
Meanwhile, Roberts (12-1) has showed excellent Jiu Jitsu in his three Octagon fights. He ended his second fight against Mike Guymon in a beautiful anaconda choke that resulted in Submission of the Night.
