UFC 129 is in the books and some of the top pound-for-pound fighters have been proven human.
Jose Aldo defeated Mark Hominick by unanimous decision and now will be looking for the next challenger to his belt.
Hominick proved Aldo has a weakness and can be given a tough time in any fight. He just needs the perfect breed of fighter.
At the UFC 129 post-fight press conference, UFC president, Dana White, was asked if Chad Mendes would be next in line to challenge Aldo for his belt. White agreed that Mendes is probably the next opponent for Aldo.
Mendes is a former All-American wrestler and Pac-10 "Wrestler of the Year." Mendes is also currently the No. 3 ranked featherweight according to Sherdog with a career record of a perfect 10-0. Mendes recently beat Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 126 by unanimous decision.
Another possible opponent could be new featherweight, Kenny Florian, who makes his debut at featherweight at UFC 131 against Diego Nunes.
All signs point to Mendes though who has taken the featherweight division by storm and could out-wrestle Aldo to a victory. The thing is though, would Mendes end up like another former college wrestler Aldo faced. Urijah Faber was decimated by leg kicks throughout his bout with Aldo and eventually lost by unanimous decision.
Mendes is a much better wrestler then Aldo, but those leg kicks Aldo throws are vicious enough to stop Mendes from going for the takedown.
A fight with Aldo could be far off, but White alluded to the possibility of Aldo fighting at UFC 133 which takes place in Philadelphia on Aug. 6. Mendes is still without a fight, but that seems to be changing quite soon.
